FHF vs Eagles players

Philadelphia, PA (April 2007) Fans Helping Fans, a grassroots charity started and run by volunteers who are passionate fans of the Philadelphia Eagles, played members of the Philadelphia Eagles in a basketball game co-sponsored by Fans Helping Fans and the family of a past grantee, Luke Mirolli. Although the Fans Helping Fans team fell short when the final buzzer sounded, everyone enjoyed a day of fun, prizes, basketball and the chance to meet Eagles players.

In conjunction with the Luke J. Mirolli Fund, Fans Helping Fans took the court on April 21, 2007, to battle the Philadelphia Eagles’ off-season basketball team at Shamokin Area High School in Shamokin, Pennsylvania. Although the final score was 110-54, everyone was a winner, as Fans Helping Fans raised nearly $1,000 to fund future grants. The money was raised from tickets to the event, as well as T-shirt sales, raffles for tickets to pre-season Eagles games, autographed memorabilia and more.

Playing for the Eagles were Sheldon Brown, Greg Richmond, Omar Gaither, Todd Herremans, Hank Baskett, & A.J. Feeley. The Fans Helping Fans team included Steve Jones, George Hill, Steve Reynolds and Freddi Carlip from Fans Helping Fans, as well as friends and family of Luke Mirolli. Luke is a former grantee of Fans Helping Fans. Born with respiratory problems and needing to be on a ventilator at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Luke was not able to be discharged from CHOP until the hospital confirmed that his home had sufficient power and wiring to make sure his ventilator would always function. FHF’s grant of $1,000.00 paid for an electrician to upgrade the wiring in the home of the Coal Township, PA baby. Luke’s father, Leo Mirolli, helped to repay Fans Helping Fans by organizing the basketball game and sharing the proceeds.
